Position light signal number P135 at Perth is fitted with a diamond sign to denote that no signal post telephone is provided but a train detained at the signal is protected by a track circuit. (Photo taken 31 March 2012)

Lichfield Trent Valley
A four-aspect colour light signal on the Down Slow line at Lichfield Trent Valley. The diamond sign exhibits the signal number, LD74, as well as a letter "T" denoting that a signal post telephone is provided. (Photo taken 2 November 2002)

Pollokshields East
Colour light signal number C35C is located at the south end of Pollokshields East station and applies to the Up Outer Circle line. Immediately above the signal identification plate, the sign with the horizontal black band denotes that this is an automatic signal. (Photo taken 11 May 2006)

Two-aspect colour light signal number P59 stands at the east end of Langbank station on the Inverclyde line. Just beyond the signal is an emergency crossover, worked locally from a mechanical ground frame. The sign at the top of the signal's identification plate indicates that this is a semi-automatic signal. Normally the signal operates automatically with the passage of trains, but the signalman is able to replace the aspect to 'danger' when the ground frame needs to be used. The driver of a train passing this signal at 'danger' in accordance with the rules must first ascertain that the ground frame is not in use. (Photo taken 26 January 2009)

New Cumnock
A 'zero minutes' plate attached to the post of signal number NC32 at New Cumnock. The driver of a train detained at this signal must immediately make contact with the signalman. (Photo taken 27 April 2006)
