Lichfield Trent Valley
The electrification mast on the left carries a 'precision' stop marker for Platform 2 at Lichfield Trent Valley station. This pinpoints the mandatory stopping position for Virgin Trains' Class 390 'Pendolino' trains composed of 9 vehicles. (Photo taken 11 October 2005)

A 'remote platform starting signal' identification sign mounted below the "5 car stop" marker at the west end of Bishopbriggs station. This identifies the signal ahead, number CE45, as a remote platform starting signal. Drivers must not draw the train up to this signal if it is at 'danger' but must remain at the station and use the telephone on the platform to communicate with the signalman. Hurst Green
The small blue sign below this car stop marker at Hurst Green station refers to Selective Door Operation (SDO) and states the maximum number of cars that can be accommodated at this platform. Both signs are in the Southern train operating company style. (Photo taken 18 August 2014)

The "X car stop" marker at the north end of Bearley station, which applies to 3-car Class 165 and 168 trains. Just beyond is a repeating warning board for a temporary speed restriction ahead. (Photo taken 19 May 2006)

Car stop markers at Surbiton, for trains of between 5 and 8 cars' length. This style of stop marker is on trial by South West Trains and is designed to stand out more clearly against other platform signage. (Photo taken 19 May 2012)

A cluster of stop markers on Platform 1 at Twyford station. Those on the left are for Intercity Express Trains (top) and diesel multiple units (bottom). A DRA (driver's reminder appliance) reminder sign is also attached to the post. The stop markers on the right apply to electric multiple units.
